Smokebox BBQ Cafe- My co-workers and I went here for Kansas City BBQ and enjoyed the burnt ends the best!
My manager wanted to taste some Kansas City BBQ before her plane took off, so we found a small BBQ restaurant in a strip mall close to the airport. The place was called Smokebox BBQ Cafe. There's never a bad BBQ joint in KC and Smokebox proves it. A little-known joint near the Airport, it provided us with decent quality ribs and brisket. I told everyone that KC is known for their burnt ends and the burnt ends did not disappoint. Clearly the best thing on the menu! After stuffing our faces with BBQ, we were off to the airport. I dropped my passengers off, fueled up the rental car, returned the rental car, and then found out that my flight had been delayed!
My friend Tonya lives in the KC area and I usually try to see her when I am in KC on business. Since our group went out for BBQ and I had to take my co-workers back to the airport, it appeared that I wouldn't get to see Tonya on this trip. When I saw my flight had been delayed, I called Tonya and she rescued me by picking me up from the airport and taking me to a local restaurant/bar in Zona Rosa called Tommfoolaries. We enjoyed a drink, a wonderful conversation, and split an ice cream dessert. Tonya drove me back to the airport and I hopped on the plane and flew back to St. Louis.
