Michael Jackson- The King of Pop
I was driving to the lake last Thursday when I stopped for gas in Kingdom City and checked my Facebook and Twitter accounts on my Blackberry. There were several messages on Twitter stating that Michael Jackson had cardiac arrest and had been taken to the hospital. The radio confirmed moments later that Michael Jackson, the King of Pop, had died.
A Facebook friend from high school said it best, "The Michael Jackson that I knew and loved in the 80's died a long time ago." Michael was a brilliant performer who shaped the music and video industry. I grew up with his music and found myself rummaging through some old boxes in the basement to find copies of his CDs that I listened to in high school. I had the album "Thriller" on tape but I found the albums "Bad" and "Dangerous" on CD at the bottom of a box filled with high school memories. I have downloaded the music to my computer and have been listening to the albums this week.
I know many of my posts lead back to the California trip I took my parents on in March. When I heard of Michael Jackson's passing I immediately thought of the California trip where we sat in on a live taping of American Idol. The show featured the top 13 and all of the contestants performed Michael Jackson songs that evening. In fact Fox re-aired the show this week in memory of Michael Jackson. Michael Jackson appeared again on our trip when we went to the Grammy Museum in downtown LA and saw a special exhibit featuring many elaborate costumes Michael wore in his videos and during his concerts. We saw the crystal and sequenced covered military style jackets and the famous white glove.
Michael Jackson may be gone but his music will live forever!
